Sunset Beach fishies!

I'm putting together the list of stores who carry my 2nd fabric line, while you wait, I thought I'd give you some ideas of what to do with it when you get your's!

I'll be posting some fun projects (some little, some a bit bigger) made with Sunset Beach over the next couple of weeks. I'm getting ready for market, and will be busy sewing with it, so I might as well show you what I'm up to!

Found this fun Felt Fishie Set tutorial here on Just Another Day in Paradise blog. It sews up super quick, which I LOVE.
Here's another version....using magnets here
A great birthday party game they could even take home a set of their own as a party favor!
(depending on how ambitious you are ;)
enjoy......
..... check back soon! more to come.....

PeRSoNaL VaLiDaTiON :)

Being a fabric designer has its up's and downs. On the outside, designing fabric sounds kinda cool and has a glamorous stigma attached to it. It is fulfilling to use my creative abilities on a daily basis. And even more so creating something that others can enjoy brings a true sense of satisfaction to my soul. I get to work from home, which allows me to be with my children and still contribute to the family monetarily. But to be completely honest, it's probably not something you will get rich at, so you had better love what you do. The design world is very competitive. Let's face it, there is a lot of talent out there! It is important for me to make sure balance is at the forefront of my mind because I could spend every moment of the day creating, doodling, sketching, and day dreaming. Like any other hobby, too much of a good thing, can turn into a bad thing very quickly if you don't keep it in check.  Everything comes at a price. So when you do pour your heart and soul into a fabric collection, taking into account all of the hours away from the husband and kids, researching trends in color, fads in fashion, home decor, sewing trends etc. etc. you hope your efforts and personal sacrifices will not go unnoticed. In the end, I want to create something you all will enjoy, something you will use in your homes, other wise.... why even bother, right?

Yesterday, I ran to the mall for a birthday present. I walked by one of my favorite stores Pottery Barn Kids.
I decided to run in just for a quick peek of what the new season had in store (literally). This is what I saw....
(since you can't take photo's in store...these are from the new catalog)

Surfers, Plaids, Palm Prints - Oh My!

This catalog is one of the reasons why I started designing in the first place. Being a young mother (some 14 years ago), and on a tight budget, this catalog was sometimes a bit pricey for us. And so I began searching for fabric to duplicate the look and feel Pottery Barn had. I had a difficult time finding anything that even came close. After discussing my thoughts with other young mothers (of boys in particular) I found I was not alone. It has been a dream of mine to design fabric that would make it possible to sew up something that was
on trend, but even better HAND MADE!
Today, the fabric industry has come a long way. There is such great stuff out there! Your local quilt shops are taking note of what we as sewers want, and today I got a bit of self validation!

Even the color way is spot on!
navy, royal blue, lime greens, oranges and browns!

I just wanted to take a moment and thank Henry Glass Fabrics for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to do what I love.
Don't forget to post your creations using Sunset Beach on my facebook page!
I can't wait to see what you've made!

This collection has arrived today and is IN STOCK!
Ask your local quilt shops to carry it!

To Market, To Market....

Well, I'm off to Houston this up coming weekend for the International Quilt Market. I won't be exhibiting, but I will be walking the show visiting old friends, and passing out FREE QUILT PATTERNS for my new boy's collection SUNSET BEACH with Henry Glass Fabrics.  So, if you are going to be there, stop me and grab one!

I will also be doing a CONTEST for all of you shop owners, and independent online stores who place an order for SUNSET BEACH, either with Henry Glass, or any major distributor ( Brewer, Checker, E.E. Schenck, Suziq). I'm still working on the prize but I think it will have something to do with sewing up a free sample of any of my patterns (of your choice) for you to display in your store along with your new fabric when it arrives! (because patterns help sell the fabric don't cha-know)! And for you online stores... maybe some free pattern packs, in place of a free sample- since you can't really display a sample online, unless of course that is what you still want;)

Anyhoo- here's what you need to do:
1. you must post a comment here under this post with your order number from either Henry Glass or your major distributor.
2. and "Like" my Hot Scott Patterns Page on Face Book. That's it! (oh, and a way to contact you).

I will randomly pick a winner when I get back!

On a side note....go check out the new Henry Glass website!!! It's awesome!
Okay, have a lovely week everybody!

Sunset Beach

Alright!
I have been given the go-ahead to promote my next fabric collection! I am soo excited! You have no idea how long this collection has been in the making! It's a tribute to the 70's surf/beach wear inspired by my childhood in San Diego, California.
Sunset Beach is a hip BOYS Collection! (Yay boys!) I hope you will love! You can bet there will be some great Hot Scott Patterns to go with!

Fabric shops can Pre-order Sunset Beach in October! Just check with your Sales Rep. or you can go through the major distributors.  As for you sewers out there... make sure you ask your local Quilt/Fabric Shops to carry.......

SuNSeT BEaCh - with Henry Glass

Boutique Cafe and yours truly!

It's always a little distracting to see yourself being video taped! I don't know about you, but I have a tendency to pick myself apart!
......I shouldn't have worn that, guh! .....My hair! Oh why did I wear my hair like that? Do I really look like that when I talk? ha!
and it goes on and on....
And of course it doesn't help to hear your 5 yr. old say... "Is that you Mommy? You look weird."
Nice.

Anyhow, here it is. Despite all my own criticisms, I am truly grateful to my friend, sweet Daria for featuring me on the Boutique Cafe giving me a chance to show you all my new boys collection Sunset Beach! It was going to debut in October at Quilt Market in Houston, but it has been pushed back a bit and will be hitting stores in March 2012.  If you love hip, edgy boy surfer fabric with awesome colors, plaids and geometric prints perfect for your boys room etc.... please make sure you ask your favorite quilt shop for it!

If you run over to Boutique Cafe and leave a comment, Daria will be doing a give away for some of my own personal stash of my 1st fabric collection called Pacific Trade Winds from Studio E.  This fabric is still available for purchase. Check my website for stores that carry it!
Here are some swatches for you to see up close.....

FrAmED FabRiC TuToRIaL

I'm a busy girl getting ready for market and all that THAT implies! (FREAKING OUT- and I'm not even doing a booth this go around but I'll be there!) New spring patterns are in the works *squeal! (more about that later....)
But I have been going a little crazy with the artwork that is hanging in my studio/front room. It's so old.... like almost 18 years old! See....

I love the frame still, but that picture has GOT to GO Pronto!!!
This is what I am leaning more towards......

Anyhow, I don't have a lot of time, but had to do something!
This is what it ended up looking like...

Aaaaah, that feels so much better! Everyone needs a little Amy Butler in the house :).....

So here's my super quick, framed fabric wall-art makeover tutorial....

(see link on sidebar that looks like this)

On a side note.... I just had to snap a shot of my favorite piece of decor in my house.....

This wroughtiron lantern belonged to my parents. It hung in the house I was raised in, only, it had mossy green glass (which I would have kept, but a couple of the panes were broken and missing) Last year I brought it home from my parents garage. It was sitting in a box covered in other trinkets from my old home.  For Mothers Day, I asked my husband to hang it for me in the front room.... that was all I wanted, so he did. :) After replacing the glass pieces, and purchasing some chain link to match, he got out his ladder and asked me to hold it while he hung. Wholly Crap!!!!  It was not easy! This sucker weighs about 60 lbs! I'm not kidding! Do you have any idea how hard that is to hold above your head for an extended period of time in order to hang it from a vaulted ceiling????? He had to mount it into a stud in the ceiling for fear we might kill someone who stood in our doorway a little too long! But, I LOVE it!
The day I move.... it's comin with me!
I just had to show you....
Do you have a favorite piece of decor? sentimental or not...I wanna see it! Send me a picture!
